speaking out

I’d like to think that I’m a pretty laid back, go-with-the-flow kind of person. I’m not one to stress myself out over things I have no control over. I don’t like confrontations or conflicts. And even if I do have a quick temper, I usually cry it out so I won’t feel tempted to throw or hit something or someone. But the one thing I cannot do is to sit quietly when I feel an injustice is being done to me or to someone else, when people abuse their power or position and when I feel that something just isn’t right.

This week, I’ve had to deal with some very inefficient people. I tried to keep my cool for two days but yesterday, I just had it. They weren’t only inefficient but also irresponsible. I heard the same feedback from some of the people who were also there and said them in even more colorful terms. However, no one wanted to directly question or complain for fear that these people would get back at them by delaying the release of their papers even longer. On the other hand, I couldn’t sit by and be content with complaining among ourselves.

You see, I believe that unless someone actually says something to the person(s) concerned, nothing would ever change. I had to say something.

Anyway, I finished what business I had with them then marched on over to their administration office and asked to speak to whoever was in-charge of customer service. Despite my infuriation, I stayed calm and polite as I gave her a piece of my mind… through gritted teeth. The lady was accommodating and profusely apologized for the inconvenience the staff had caused and promised to look into it. I said that I certainly hoped so.

Now I can only hope that she really will try to do something about it. I’m happy that I was able to say what I needed and wanted to say, hoping that something positive would come of it.

  1. Good for you! People who speak their thoughts are not always necessarily "heard"- but how else will you have a chance, if you don't speak!- So- kudos to you:)

  2. hi, so good to hear from you! :o) you're right, speaking out doesn't mean you'll get "heard" but then again, who knows? it might make a difference.

i wasn't sure at first if i was going to keep this particular template but it's just so happy, isn't it? :o)

  3. Good for you for speaking up! People cannot possible know where the problems are if no one tells them.
