I seriously began to cut down on my food intake beginning last week. We'll be going home for our vacation at the end of November and I don't want to feel guilty about indulging in all my favorite Pinoy fare while we're there. That's why these days, I'm looking for healthier but still filling substitutes to my usual meals.
Anyway, last week, J brought home a falafel sandwich for me. A falafel is a Middle Eastern street food made from ground chick peas or fava beans and spices that's then deep fried. It can be eaten as it is or as a sandwich with the falafel balls rolled inside a flatbread or a pita bread with pickled cucumbers, turnips and red onions added. The one I ate also had tomatoes and half a boiled egg. It was very satiating and delicious with some hot sauce that I only ate half of it for lunch while I finished the other half for merienda. It made me feel for a few minutes that maybe I could, just maybe, become a vegetarian. And it's also a healthier alternative to eating rice and meat. :D
Yesterday afternoon, the husbo asked if I wanted him to bring me another one after his shift ended this morning to which I answered a hearty "yes!". And now you know what I'm having for lunch. Bon appétit.
