seizing the moment

I got to watch "My Best Friend's Wedding" for the nth time last Sunday. I never seem to get tired of watching that movie. It makes me laugh and cry all in one breath. It's right up there among my favorite flicks of all time. Plus it has a great soundtrack… I love old songs.

And the part in the film that kills me is the one where Jules and Michael are on the ferry and Michael says, "Kimmy says if you love someone you say it. You say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just passes you by…" And the moment is suddenly there, as the ferry passes under a bridge but Jules hesitates and that split-second chance is lost to her forever.

I remember crying like an idiot while I watched that scene. At that time, I had just broken up with someone and was regretting the fact that I never said all that I needed to say to him when I had my "moment".

Of course now, in retrospect, I laugh at how silly and drama queen-ish I was. I now have the love that makes all my past heartaches nothing but amusing vignettes to recount of my old life. I did, however, learn to grab those precious opportunities to say out loud to the people I love what I really feel.
