Thirteen Things I Dislike About
Local Philippine Movies
1. The inevitable slapping scene.
2. The exchange of curses/words by the "vida" (good guy/gal) and "contravida" (villain) in the middle of a gunfight. If they're going to shoot one another down then why not just shoot?!
3. Uttering the movie's title in one of the main actor's lines.
4. The song-and-dance number *grimace*… so Bollywood-ish.
5. The character's last words before dying.
6. In hospital scenes, when a character needs to be revived, the defibrillator pads are placed on the still fully dressed patient. I could go on & on about hospital scenes… don't they ever do any research?!
7. The comedy movies are always slapstick.
8. The crying scene that lasts for 5 minutes while the camera pans on the actor's face from every possible angle… *sniffle, sniffle*.
9. A lot of local movies give you a sense of déja vu because their storylines are often patterned after foreign films.
10. Movie plots are almost always predictable.
11. Where a comedy actor's not-so-pretty face is the punch line. So sad…
12. The action movie hero always has to have a gorgeous leading lady with whom they have a love scene with. Puh-leeze…
13. Where every other sexy/bold starlet justifies her shedding of clothes in a skin flick as "art".
*Don't get me wrong though... Philippine cinema isn't just all that I wrote. We also have extremely good movies that have been recognized by international film bodies. Movies we can be proud of and are proud of. :)
I have never seen a movie there!
ReplyDeleteMy dad is working in China right now and he says he misses America television. :)
ReplyDeleteWell sorry about your cinema. Can you rent good dvd's?
ReplyDeleteHappy TT to you...
I haven't seen any movies from the Philippines... I don't think I can even spell Philippines... :(
ReplyDeletemaybe you can rent some American movies.. or have someone send you some? :) (Not that they're any better.. really)
Well, the upside is we get to watch American & other foreign films the same time that it's released in the US. Filipinos love to watch movies & we're up to date! :o)
ReplyDeleteThe movies we have that are released internationally are usually entered in film fests. But we do have some good ones... rare as they are.
I've never seen Philippine movies too, but I don't think I'd like them a lot! :-)
ReplyDeletePhilippine
I visited the Philippines a few times, but never saw a local movie. Now you are convincing me that I haven't missed anything!
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't know better, I would think you were talking about American movies. Your comment about the slapping scene makes me wonder if Filipino filmmakers grew up watching Joan Crawford and Three Stooges movies. The latter would explain all of the slapstick in Filipino comedies.
ReplyDeleteLOL...yikes. I dont blame you:) Happy TT.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a movie from the phillipine. Interesting TT!!! I need to watch one to know what you mean...
ReplyDeleteMy TT is up!!!!
While I'm sure this is true, American films have their cliches too. But hopefully you can get yourself some good dvds from...well, elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteYup, they're all true..Sad but true..but still I missed watching some of my faves there:D Home is where the heart is after all;)
ReplyDeleteIts some of those same reasons why I rarely watch movies here in America happy TT
ReplyDeleteMOST OF ALL..........enjoy being together with your hubby!!! And baby....
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S WHAT COUNTS!
I also have never seen a Philippine movie before, although I'm thinking they could be a great theme for a fancy dress party ;-)
ReplyDeleteHappy TT, Candy!
