I need a change of atmosphere. I love being with J and my son here in SA but the environment is driving me mad. Five to six days a week (depending on J's work schedule), it's just me and Jeolo at home. We wake up, have breakfast, he plays and explores while I chase after him, he takes a nap after about 3 or 4 hours and I use the time to do the dishes or grab something to eat. I can't really do much of anything else because he refuses to sit alone in his play pen. If I disappear from his sight to run to the toilet to pee, he bawls his head off until I come back. And being in SA means I can't bring him outside by myself because my husband isn't with me. Aaaaarrrggh!!! Much as I try, I can't keep myself from losing my cool every so often. A person can only take so much. Especially one who hates routines. I'm a slave to variety. I don't mind getting tired as long as it's not over the same thing day in and day out.
To begin remedying the situation, I informed J that every afternoon after he comes home from work, he has to take care of Jeolo while I take out my stress on the treadmill which is collecting dust in the other room because no one's using it. Then I'm also convincing him to begin playing badminton with me so that instead of going out every Friday evening for a basketball game with his buddies, we get to spend time together as well as exercise. He's giving it serious consideration (he should or else...!!!).
I'll also be applying for a job as a clinic nurse. The pay is a bit less than if I were to work in the wards or ICU but I don't want to do the 12-hour shifts with night schedules yet because of Jeolo. The clinic assignment is only 8 hours a day with weekends off so I'll have energy and time to give to my son when I go home in the afternoons. I think it's a good compromise. And it will definitely help me keep my sanity.
Staying at home will drive me mad too. Who will take care of your baby when you're out working? You guys better think about moving to Dubai since you can freely drive around here to the malls or everywhere when you're bored.
ReplyDeleteOne of our kumares is a stay at home mom and offered to baby sit for him during the day so she can make a little extra. She has two boys that Jeolo enjoys playing with. I hope an opportunity comes up for us to move to Dubai instead! :o)
