I usually look forward to going out whenever J is off from work because it's a tiny break from the monotony of staying at home most of the week. We get to have dinner, shop a little and let Jeolo run around in a much bigger space than what our tiny flat affords. But, once we're in the mall and chasing after our son, who has his own itinerary, I start thinking it wasn't such a good idea after all.
Yesterday evening, he was in top kulit shape. The moment we stepped through the mall's doors, he began twisting himself out of my grasp and ran as fast as he could towards the center where the fountain was. After a while, we tried to lead him to the grocery but he again escaped and off we were on another race. Needless to say, we spent the better part of two hours running after, struggling with and dragging him away from places he shouldn't go to. When we were finally making our way back out, he began sprinting ahead of us again. We didn't bother to keep pace with him anymore but just made sure he stayed within our line of sight. So, it surprised us when we saw a woman suddenly dash after Jeolo and grab his arm. We hurried over and I was able to catch her asking my son if he was lost. When she saw us, she breathed a huge sigh of relief and told me that she'd thought he was lost. I was touched by this stranger's concern and thanked her profusely before going on my way.
When he was an infant, all I wanted was for him to learn how to walk but now that he has, I can't wait for him to grow old enough to actually listen when I tell him not to do something, hahaha! Where do toddlers get all their energy? I wish I could have some of it so I can keep pace with him all the time. Until then, I think I need to stock up on Red Bull and Boost.
