This is it, the last leg of the American Idol competition. Both Lee and Crystal had three songs each to sing: their favorite from the entire season, a pick from Simon Fuller, AI's executive producer, and their coronation song which is a cover song of their choice.
Lee's songs:
- The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel
- Everybody Hurts by REM
- Beautiful Day by U2
Crystal's songs:
- Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin
- Black Velvet by Alannah Myles
- Up to the Mountain by Patty Griffin
All I can say is that Crystal wiped the stage with Lee. She had confidence, conviction and undeniably more superior talent while Lee struggled to keep his head and his voice above water. On that alone, Crystal should be the winner. Unfortunately, talent has never been enough on AI. It's a popularity contest and pretty boy Lee is the one the mommies and teens want. I feel quite disappointed with the impending and very predictable result. And although the optimist in me is saying it ain't over till it's over, the realist knows better. But, on the unlikeliest chance that Crystal should manage to pull an upset, I'd probably be left stunned with disbelief and joy.
